Hi,
How many 1946 Indians survive?  Nobody knows for sure but first one must ask "How many 1946 Indians were made?"  Some of the references out there say only 3,500 or so were built but VIN numbers into the 7,000, 8,000, and 9,000 have been seen.  The best estimate round number is 10,000 for 1946 Indian production.  This number of 10,000 also seems to be very close for the 1947 production run and the 1948 production run.  Some might guess that only 2% survive but I think that the number is closer to 25%.  That would mean that about 2,500 1946 Indians survive.  That number of 2,500 would also apply to 1947 Indians that survive and 1948 Indians also.  There will be estimates that vary from mine.  Vendors and enthusiast experts such as Gary Stark, Jacob Junker, Chuck Myles, Mike Tomas, Jerry Greer and others will have a better guess but a guess will be the only thing found as nobody knows for sure.  Sincerely, Steven Bailey baiste@sgu.edu
