I am new here and this is my first post. Please forgive me if  do not follow proper protocol at first. I will learn.

I just purchased a 2002 Indian spirit. I and waiting for it to be shipped to me.  I have grown up riding mostly dirt bikes. This is my first cruiser. I noticed by looking at the pictures the gear shift is different than what I am used to. In my ignorance I do not even know how the shift pattern is on this bike. All the bikes I have ever owned had one lever and the pattern was one down and the rest up depending on the bike. such as one down and three up or four up. When I looked at the gear lever there was two levers and it made me wonder if there is something different and/or the pattern was different.

Someone please help out the newbe.

I too, am new here, and new to Indians (ownership, anyway). Typically, the shift pattern will be one down, the rest up (also, typically four upshifts for a five speed). I'm not familiar with the Spirit, but some bikes have a shifter designed so you can shift down with your toe, and up with your heel, if you so desire. All three of my bikes ('82 KZ100 police bike, '08 Suzuki C109R, and '02 Indian Chief) have a single toe shifter, no heel shifter. In fact, some people cut the heel shift part of the shifter off, for whatever reason. Hope that helps
